Treat yourself: K Rousseau Collective

October 18, 2017

Hello lovelies,

We have a serious affinity for beautiful things; an affinity that grows exponentially when we know those beautiful things are hand crafted by wonderful people. Enter: K Rousseau Collective. Both Lauren and I are Okanagan girls and the owner/creator/designer of this company, Karen Rousseau, is a home grown Summerland resident.

For as long as I can remember, Karen has been a creator. There isn’t a sewing or home design project that she couldn’t flawlessly complete. In fact, she comes from a family of creators who design and make anything from amazing floral pieces, custom furniture and cutting boards to baby clothes and custom sewing projects. Did I mention they are musicians, too? Yes – they are those people that we admire and aspire to be.

When I asked Karen “why jewelry” this is what she said:

“I have made jewelry since I knew what jewelry was. I always had a tackle box of beads to take on summer vacation.. I would sit on the dock at my grandparent’s place in Harrison for hours…you can do it in a small space and the materials can be anything. I am generally good at looking at something and knowing how it is made, but silver smithing was different. There was a veil of mystery around it…it was something I really needed to study and learn how to do. That in itself adds value, and i was totally taken with it.”

She calls her affinity for stones a mineral romance. (how frickin cute is she?!?) Karen has an army of stones to chose from including moonstone, sapphire, lapis lazuli and turquoise. She mostly works with sterling silver but also rose gold on occasion. My most treasured piece is a rose gold bracelet with the GPS co-ordinates of where I was engaged stamped on the face of the bracelet. Delicate and meaningful. If you head over to her Instagram or Facebook you can see her most recent STUNNING bronze cuff. She can customize messages inside of the cuffs as well.

It is so incredible how we can wear pieces that are tailored to us and help tell our story. So treat yourself, or someone special to you and head over to check out her mad skills. I have nothing but love for this mama and friend and adore her contributions to the handmade world.
